Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and neutering involve rendering your pet unable to reproduce. East Bend Animal Hospital, understands the delicate and important nature of these procedures, and we make every effort to ensure your pet’s health, safety and comfort.

Many pet owners are wary of spaying or neutering; however, the benefits that accompany these procedures are quite significant, both for pets and their owners. For example, spaying and neutering provides advantages like the following:

  • Reduced risk of reproductive cancers in both males and females.
  • Reduced aggression and improved overall behavior. Many owners also say that spaying or neutering makes pets more receptive to training.
  • Since spaying or neutering reduces your pet’s urge to mate, there is also a decreased chance of wandering off and getting lost.
  • In females, spaying prevents messy heat cycles and unwanted attention from males.
  • Reduced spraying, wailing and sexual aggression against people, objects and other animals.
  • Spaying early greatly reduces the chance of mammary cancer and also eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and infection.
  • Neutering will decrease the possibility of prostate disease and eliminates testicular cancer.

While spaying and neutering are very common procedures, we understand that any medical & surgery vet services that are needed, should be handled with the utmost care. Our methods involve the use of top-quality medications and state-of-the-art equipment. Throughout the entire process, your pet’s vital signs are monitored by a highly-trained veterinary technician. Plus, prior to your pet’s surgery, we offer comprehensive blood testing. This procedure gives us a better understanding of your pet’s health and allows us to determine his or her anesthesia needs. As an added benefit, pre-surgical blood testing can also lead to the detection of illness or infection that would have otherwise been missed.

Our spaying and neutering procedures include the following:

  • Intravenous fluids and catheter.(optional)
  • Anesthesia.
  • Constant monitoring from trained, caring technicians.
  • Hospitalization.
  • Routine medications, including post-operative pain management drugs.
  • Checkup and suture removal.

If you’re interested in having your pet spayed or neutered, contact us today for more information regarding our procedures.
