Backyard chickens are becoming very popular across the country.  Many households are adding feathered friends to their family.  This fast-growing hobby is becoming common in Central Oregon.  The city of Bend allows residents to have up to four chickens in the city limits if they reside on a 5,000 square foot lot or larger.  Redmond also allows residents to have chickens; one chicken is allowed for every 500 square feet of property.  Roosters are not allowed in the city limits.
